Trenching and Excavation

Duration: 3 days, 08h00 to 16h00
Summary: This programme has been specifically designed to meet the standards for excavation safety as per the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Department of Labour specific compliance requirements for inspections of excavations.
The course is specifically aimed for those employees who have been appointed as the “competent person or excavation supervisor/inspector”.
Legal compliance applicable: Construction regulations require that all excavations be carried out under supervision of a competent person who has been appointed in writing.
Accreditation: Amokoro Training is CETA accredited against unit standard 365183 Implement safety procedures for open hole or deep excavations NQF level 03. SAIOSH accredited for three CPD points.
Content: Modules:

  1. Explain the legal responsibilities for Health and Safety when working in or alongside excavations.
  2. Identify unsafe working conditions relating to excavations.
  3. Determine methods of achieving health and safety when working in or alongside excavations.
  4. Undertake responsibility for safety of self and others.
  5. Conduct safe work practices.
Entry requirements: ABET level 4 (Basic reading, writing and arithmetic).
Medium of instruction and training materials are in English.
Min/max number of learners Minimum: 8 learners per course
Maximum: 20 learners per course
Who Should Attend: All workers who have been nominated or appointed as a trenching, excavation supervisor or team leader as well as any employees who work in or with trenches.
