Confined Space Entry Permit Issue

Duration: 3 days (08:00 to 17:00) ( 1 hour lunch break)
Summary: The course outcomes will allow the participant, on successful completion the ability to ensure that all the criteria have been met for the safe entry of a confined space and to issue a permit. The learning material for this programme has been designed and developed according to client specific requirements and covers confined space hazards, PPE, measurement of gases, ventilation, temperatures and training on relevant site procedures.
Accreditation: No specific unit standard exists for this course however the course is based on the needs of people required to issue permits for confined space entry. The standards used would be applicable to most confined space circumstances. SAIOSH accredited for three CPD points.
Content: Modules:
Learners who are assessed as competent against this learning programme will be able to issue permits for confined space entry, identify and assess the hazards of confined spaces and the precautions required for the safety of the workers and public. They will be able to comply with the necessary safety procedures with regards to personal safety as well as environmental safety and the safety of fellow workers. They will also be competent in:

  • Testing and identifying hazardous atmospheres
  • Lock-out procedure
  • Confined space entry procedure
  • Mill re-lining procedure
  • Hot work procedure
  • Hazardous locations procedure
  • Emergency response procedure
  • Individual written tasks are completed as part of a portfolio of evidence covering each topic to reinforce knowledge gained.)
  • The programme requires that each learner plan and execute a confined space entry safely to be found competent.
Entry requirements: ABET level 4 (Basic reading, writing and arithmetic). Medium of instruction and training materials are in English. Learners must possess a basic understanding of working in confined spaces.

Maximum: 10 learners per course
Who Should Attend: All employees who are tasked with entry into confined spaces and supervision of entry into confined spaces, and specifically the issuing of a permit to enter and work in a confined space.
